Under His Wings
An account of perfect protection.

This morning as I was working on my computer, headphones kept me up to speed on the latest news. Wars. Rumors of wars. Discord and strife. Wife cheats on husband. Husband shoots wife …

Amid the news-on-the-hour, I gazed outside my window for a little relief. While basking in my view of outdoor tranquility, I was drawn to two doves on a telephone wire. They were sitting close, exchanging affectionate gestures. There was no mistaking their sincere adoration for one another.

After time, the male snuggled close to his loving companion. Then he spread one of his wings wide, wrapped it around the body of his love, and closed his feathers in around her. There they sat for much of the morning.

Now I understand what the Psalmist meant when he said:

“He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust."

 Psalms, Chapter 91: Verse 4

Reference photo at the top of the page: One day in the spring, this baby bird sat just outside our office window. Both his parents spent the afternoon trying to teach this reluctant bird to fly. They took turns flying low, circling, chirping, and demonstrating technique. All the while, our little feathered friend held on tightly to the branch. As the sun began to set, he finally spread his wings, and the three headed skyward. Early childhood education: fly low, circle close, hover, encourage, instruct, be patient, work to maintain close family ties.
